A Heritage and Philosophy Inherited for 4 Generations

This triple respect for terroir, grape and wine is ingrained in the DNA of the Maison

Through vintages and acquisitions, the Drouhin family has remained dedicated to preserving the true expression of wines within the mosaic of vineyards offered by the great Burgundy wine region. This quest for excellence extends across nearly 90 appellations, produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, grape varieties that reveal the essence of our terroirs.

Listening and Respecting Nature

Over time, through what we call experience, Maison Joseph Drouhin naturally made the choice to embrace an organic and, even more so, biodynamic approach starting in the late 80s

The motto "natural responses to natural challenges," is shared by the entire family. This attentive and respectful attitude towards nature is concretely displayed through practices such as horse ploughing, cover cropping, and natural composting to enhance soil health. Biodynamic methods involve treatments derived from plant infusions and natural predators, following a specific calendar.

The Maison prioritizes deep root systems and high-density planting– up to 12,500 vines per hectare – to enhance the terroir's expression to its fullest potential, resulting in low yields. Hand harvesting in small perforated crates preserves the integrity of the fruit.

Naturally Revealing Our Treasures

Respecting the Natural Rhythm of Vinification based on each specific “Climat”

At the winery, this commitment to integrity is maintained by prioritizing the natural rhythm of vinification based on each terroir (destemming, vertical or horizontal presses, gravity clarification, indigenous yeasts, stainless steel or oak barrels...). The selection of wood for our barrels involves choosing oak trees that have been carefully selected and air-dried for three years to refine the tannins.

A Style Unique to Maison Joseph Drouhin

All of these practices and philosophies come together to create a distinctive style that is characteristic of Maison Joseph Drouhin

It is no coincidence - or rather, not a coincidence anymore - that the first acquisitions were made near the village of Chambolle-Musigny. Elegance and harmony are the guiding principles of this style. When consumed in their youth, the wines are fruity and delicious. With further patience, the wines evolve into a sumptuous and indescribably complex character.
