PHILIPPE DROUHIN
The man of the vine, responsible for the Drouhin
estate in Burgundy and Oregon
|
From a very young age, he was able to observe
the methods of viticulture practiced at Drouhin, and his father, involved
him in his own research. After graduating from the Ecole Supérieure
de Commerce in Tours, he went to the Lycée Viticole in Beaune and
attended enology courses at the University of Dijon.
He entered Maison Joseph Drouhin
officially in 1988 and was given the responsibility of the vineyards.
Ve ry soon, he opted for the biological approach and its exacting constraints.
His role is to rigorously follow the vine at eve ry step of its evolution.
He is the one who selects the stocks, chooses the care to be given to the
soils, oversees the pruning of the vines and decides the best time to pick
the grapes. His decisions contribute
g reatly to the quality and exact expression of the terroirs.
Philippe lives in Beaune but loves traveling to far-off places and discovering
other cultures. He has driven across the Sahara desert and would love to
discover Asia. There is only one thing missing : enough time !
