MONTHELIE

Monthelie is one of the most picturesque villages in all Burgundy. Until the Appellation Contrôlée laws of 1936, the wine was actually sold as Volnay, which explains why it is still relatively unknown - and a great value !

As with all red wines from Côte d'Or, Monthelie is made with Pinot Noir, which imparts to the wine its delicate aromas of red currant, blackberry and even violet. As it gets older, undergrowth and mushroom are the dominant notes, with its fruit turning to jam or compote.

Compared to Volnay, it sometimes has more flesh and vinosity. It also has understated tannins which will insure good ageing.

Monthelie goes well with meat : fowl, veal, beef, as well as ripened cheeses. One of the best accompaniments is actually duck.
