Homage to wine-women

September 20th, 2000 : French Chefs’ Spouses pick grapes at the Clos des Mouches

At Joseph Drouhin’s, we appreciate women, and they deserve it ! Here, we use the word “oenologist” in the feminine. Laurence Jobard, one of the very first women to hold such a position in Burgundy, conducts, with a master’s hand,  the vinification of some ninety different Burgundy appellations. Her team itself is only composed of women. In Oregon, it is Véronique Drouhin-Boss, the daughter of Robert Drouhin, the Chief Executive President, who is the oenologist.

To celebrate this tradition of women wine-makers, Maison Joseph Drouhin has invited the spouses of the greatest French Chefs, on the occasion of 2000’s crop, to pick grapes on a parcel of the famous
 "Clos des Mouches".

Twenty of these «Grandes Dames» of French gastronomy were present in Beaune on September 20th to take part in this exceptional event : after the harvest, the grapes were pressed on the old 16th century press, entirely refurbished for the occasion. It is located above the cellars, all interconnected like the cells of a bee-hive. Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, they belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France.
