Beaujolais Nouveau - Situation as of September 19th 2017

21.09.2017
The grape harvest eventually spread out over a longer period than expected, the later ripening areas in the Beaujolais region benefited from good climatic conditions, alternating a little rain, with beautiful periods of sunshine and cool nights.

The first racking of wines from the earlier ripening areas is taking place at the moment. This gives us an idea of the style of the first wines.
In general, the volume produced in the south Beaujolais is low, due to the spring frost. This is not a surprise as we had been expecting this. Areas in the north of the Beaujolais are more satisfactory.

This year the style of the wines seems rather fleshy, fruity, fairly round, with a good level of acidity.

We still need to await the wines coming from the late ripening areas to confirm this style but to taste the first wines they could resemble those of the 2009 vintage.
